PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Pakistan government has been urged to conduct a detailed study about Afghanistan’s Hajigak iron ore mines.

Pakistan could benefit from the untapped potential of the largest iron oxide deposits in Afghanistan, believes the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI).

Hajigak and Peshawar were only 400 kilometers apart, which added to its geo-economically rewarding value, the apex trade body explained.

Nasser Hyatt Maggo, president of FPCCI, proposed the study should be conducted to assess cost-effective and long-term potential iron ore supplies for Pakistan’s steel industry.

In a statement, he said Pakistan could greatly benefit from next-door supplies for decades — a multi-billion dollar geo-economic prospect.
