JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Intelligence officials said 50 Daesh or Islamic State affiliates surrendered to the government in various areas of eastern Nangarhar province on Saturday.

Nangarhar intelligence chief Dr. Bashir told Pajhwok Afghan News the former insurgents surrendered to the government through mediation and efforts of tribal elders.

He said the surrendering people had been forgiven under the general amnesty order of the Taliban’s supreme leader.

Dr. Bashir said the surrendering men had been active in eight districts of the province.

Malak Zainuddin, a tribal elder, said as per the agreement, the house of those who returned to Daesh after being pardoned  would be set alight.

“After the Islamic Emirate return to power, these Daesh men had no reason to continue their armed resistance,” the elder said.

Since Taliban’s return to power, more than 500 Daesh insurgents have so far surrendered in various districts of Nangarhar province.
