KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Efforts to rescue a five-year-old boy, who fell into a well in the Jaldak area of southern Zabul province, remain unsuccessful, local officials said Thursday.
The child named Haidar fell into a well on Wednesday and efforts to rescue him have been underway since last 45 hours.
Information and culture director of Zabul,SharafatWeyar, told Pajhwok Afghan News that efforts were underwayto rescue the child.
He said that digging a tunnel to the area where the child was stuck was ongoing, but the problem was that the area was rocky and the excavation process was going slowly.
Different machines from neighboring Kandahar province have also reached the area, but they are also little helpful, he said.
“The condition of the child is serious because he has stopped crying and may have gone asleep,” he said.
However, he said the area where the child was stuck was about a meter away from the end of the tunnel.
Zabul residents and eyewitnesses say that the child was in danger due to lack of advanced equipment.
Mohammad Naeem, a resident of Zabul, told Pajhwok that digging a tunnel to the spot where the child was stuck was underway since Wednesday.
He said the child was still alive and people were making all their efforts to rescue him.
