Balkh disabled athletes take part in wheelchair race

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Disabled persons in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, held a run race on wheelchairs on Sunday.

Twenty disabled persons participated in the race in which Asadullah Abdul Rahimzai won the first position.

Asadullah told Pajhwok Afghan News that he was thrilled to have won the race.

He said he had been playing basketball on wheelchair and it was the first time that he took part in a race.

Hafeezullah, another disabled player, said he was happy to be honored by the Sport Department like other players.

He was excited by participating in the race and said the purpose of his participation in the game was to spread the message of peace.

Balkh Sport Department Director AhmadullahHammad said the race was held to promote sport activities among disabled persons.

He pledged creation of more sport facilities and provision of transport system for disabled athletes in the province.
