Karzai thanks Modi for praising Afghan attire

KABUL (Pajhwok): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised former president Hamid Karzai’s traditional Afghan attire.

On Saturday, the Indian leader was gifted a turban and a long coat by representatives of Afghan Hindus and Sikhs.

“President Hamid Karzai would be very happy to see me wearing this,” Modi said a day after he met the Hindu-Sikh delegation.

The Indian PM said he was warmly received and applauded during a visit to Kabul, where he inaugurated the Parliament House.

For his part, Karzai thanked Modi for his gesture and conveyed his best wishes to the people of India.

“Your Excellency, Mr Prime Minister @narendramodi, thank you so much for the kind gesture. Best wishes to Your Excellency and the friendly people of #India,” Karzai tweeted.
