KABUL (Pajhwok): The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Tuesday said 24.4 million people in Afghanistan needed humanitarian aid.
On its Twitter handle, ICRC wrote: “24.4 million people in Afghanistan are in need of humanitarian assistance. This is a 30% increase from a year ago.”
Earlier on November 25, last year ICRC said: “Economic sanctions meant to punish those in power in #Kabul are instead freezing millions of people across Afghanistan out of the basics they need to survive.”
“Sights of people queuing outside banks in #Afghanistan are common these days. People arrive as early as 4 am to reserve a spot. Sanctions on banking services send the economy into free-fall. A political solution must be found to avoid irreparable humanitarian consequences.”
