KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Development Company (NDC) says 689 projects are under construction while 396 projects have been completed, adding that those who worked under the previous regime remain on duty.

ReyazuddinSharifi, deputy director of production and trade affairs at NDC, said that the company had fulfilled 70 percent of its tax liabilities and paid arrears worth 24.7 billion afghanis.

He added that government enterprises had been in decline for some time and they needed to come under a healthy management and for that reason, they linked to NDC.

Construction companies had 152 projects before merging with NDC but most of these projects were halted, he said.

Sharifi said that NDC currently has 1083 projects with a value of 121 billion afghanis, of which 394 projects have been completed and 689 are under construction.

These projects are divided into eight sectors, of which 151 are in the educational sector, 492 in the religious sector, 85 in the industrial and agricultural sector, and 182 in the administrative and social sector, he added.

He continued that there are 50 projects in the water and culture sector, 101 in health and sports, 19 in infrastructure and three in housing which include 4,000 apartments.

About NDC’s liability, he said, “The National Development Company has paid 70 percent of its tax liabilities and paid about 24.7 billion afghanis in debts.”

Sharifi said that the company owes 14 billion afghanis to other organs that have worked on their projects, and the company currently has 4.6 billion afghanis in cash in its bank accounts.  He added that 745 projects would be fully completed if project holders have enough budget.

Mulavi Abdul WaliArghandiwal, finance and administrative director at NDC, said that reports about  dismissal of former government employees in the company were untrue. “They are all in their positions,” he said.

“Those who worked and served in the previous government are all on their jobs and the government supports them,” he added.

Arghandiwal said that NDC fulfills its responsibilities in any situation and work with a strong will for the development of the country in a transparent manner.
