PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan’s former interior minister Rehman Malik passed away on Wednesday of Covid-related complications.
“Deeply devastated to say that PPP’s senior leader Abdul Rehman Malik has passed away,” his spokesman Riaz Ali Turi tweeted.
Dawn reported Malik, who had tested positive for Covid-19 in January, was put on a ventilator after his health deteriorated earlier in February.
The ex-senator had initially been shifted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Islamabad, his spokesman said.
The virus had damaged the lungs of Malik, who had been complaining of breathing problems after contracting Covid.
Dawn quoted his nephew Waqas Malik as saying the former senator’s funeral prayers would be held at the mosque in Islamabad’s H-8 sector at 2:30 pm on Thursday.
