KABUL (Pajhwok): The caretaker government of Afghanistan on Friday called for a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine and urged all parties to take care of the lives of Afghan students and other foreigners in the country.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday ordered a special military operation in the Donbas region of Ukraine. The attack, which began yesterday, is still ongoing and has reportedly left hundreds dead and injured.

“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and is concerned about possible civilian casualties,” the Afghan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement called on all parties to refrain from taking any position that could lead to escalation of hostilities.

The source added: “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, through its neutral foreign policy, calls on the warring parties to resolve the ongoing conflict through dialogue and peaceful means.

The statement also called on all parties to the conflict to take care of the lives of Afghan students and foreigners in Ukraine.
