ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Officials of the Department of Refugees and Repatriation in northwestern Nimroz province say more than 2,000 Afghans enter the province daily through the “Silk Bridge” from neighboring Iran.
Maulvi Sidiqullah Nusrat, head of the refugee and repatriation department, told a press conference on Monday that between 2,000 to 2,500 Afghan refugees return to the province daily from Iran.
He added that 50 to 70 percent of them were families and the rest are individuals.
Nusrat said the migrants enter Afghanistan through the Silk Bridge. He added that the returnees included homeless women and children who had been forcibly deported from Iran.
Nusrat said the men were being held in a camp in the provincial capital, which was set up by the International Organization for Migration in coordination with the refugee department of the province.
He added each returnee in Nimroz will receive 2,800 afghanis from the International Organization for Migration.
