PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): As many as 240 Afghan citizens have been detained by police in northern Pakistan for entering the country illegally.
The Afghans, who did not have valid travel documents, were arrested in Tank city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province by Gomal Bazaar police.
Dawn reported the Afghans had unlawfully entered South Waziristan tribal district. The detainees included 26 women and as many children.
The newspaper quoted an unnamed police official as saying the Afghan families, detained at the Gardawi check-post, were trying to travel from Wana to different parts of the country in 37 vehicles.
A case has been filed against the Afghans on the basis if complaint from Gomal police official Fahim Mumtaz. Later, they were sent to Dera Ismail Khan central jail.
