KABUL (Pajhwok): President Joe Biden has asked Americans not to be concerned about a nuclear conflict over Ukraine.
Reuters reported that Biden ruled out the possibility of a nuclear face-off on Monday, a day after his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin ordered military leaders to put their nukes on high alert.
Asked at the White House if American citizens should worry about a nuclear war breaking out, Biden replied in the negative.
Also on Monday, according to Reuters, White House officials insisted there was no reason for the US to change its nuclear alert levels at the moment.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told journalists: “We are assessing President Putin’s directive and at this time, we see no reasons to change our own alert levels.”
The United States and NATO had no “appetite” for war with Russia, she insisted, calling Moscow’s remarks on nuclear weapons a dangerous move.
Biden held a call with leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, Romania and the United Kingdom along with NATO’s chief and European Union officials.
