Former judges ask govt to determine their fate

KABUL (Pajhwok): Former government judges on Wednesday held a protest meeting in Kabul, saying the government should determine their fate.

They said their fate remained unknown for the last six month and the government should resolve this issue.

One of the protesting judges, Safiullah, said the fate of all judges across the country could not be decided during the past six months.

He said if the government wanted to reinstate them, it should pay their six months’ salary.

“We are also members of this community, the government should give us our rights,” he added.

Another protester, Qazi Ahmadullah (pseudonym), insisted that the government should determine their fate.

According to him, the government should hold judges accountable if it thinks they are involved in corruption.

The judges also issued a statement that read. “If former judges have been fired by the government for their involvement in corruption, they are ready to be held accountable.”

The resolution called on the government to reinstate all former judges.

It added that if their appointments were not made on a case-by-case basis, the government would pay six months’ salary and pensions to former judges.

The resolution emphasized the need to ensure the safety of judges, and said that if security could not be secured, they would have to leave the country.

A spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, Zabihullah Mujahid, had earlier told Pajhwok Afghan News in an interview that the government did not call back former judges in order to curb corruption.
