KABUL (Pajhwok): The European Union has cut seven Russian banks from the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT).
VTB, Rossiya, Otkritie, Novikombank, Promsvyazbank, Sovcombank and VEB RF were excluded from SWIFT on Wednesday, TASS news agency reported.
Brussels was ready to add new banks to this list, if necessary, the European Commission was quoted as saying.
European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said the EU had adopted three waves of heavy sanctions against Russia’s financial system, its high-tech industries and corrupt elite.
