KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has said that $250 million is required for continuing humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.
The organization in a report on its website said that most of the Afghan people lacked access to healthcare centers.
The report says that 638 mothers out of 100,000 lose their lives in Afghanistan during pregnancy or delivery which is the highest mother mortality rate in Asia.
UNFPA warned that mother mortality rate would go high if needed assistance was not provided to the war-torn country.
The source said that there is need for $250 million for continuation of assistance in Afghanistan.
Established in 1969, UNFPA is the largest source of international funding for family planning and family health working with governments and non-governmental organizations in more than 140 countries.
