Islamic University students want migrated to other varsities

KABUL (Pajhwok): Dozens of students of the private Islamic University in capital Kabul on Thursday staged a protest, seeking their migration to other universities as their university has no operational license.

The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), on the other hand, promised the protesters that the ministry would determine their fate within the next 15 days.

The protestors, who gathered in front of MoHE, claimed their university lacked quality management and teaching standards and experienced professors and the university had no operational license from MoHE.

Obaidullah, one of the protesters, said the chancellor of the university had warned students that if they protested, he would cancel their discount, but they still chose to protest.

After two hours of the protest, Ismail Rouhani, deputy higher education minister, and some other MoHE officials visited the protestors and asked them to appoint their representatives for talks with the ministry’s leadership.

Rouhani assured all students who took part in the protest that their problem would be addressed as soon as possible.

Another MoHE official, RohullahRouhani said that the license of Islamic University was under review for identifying educational centers operating without permission.

He said that 25 universities were without licenses and added that the problems remained from the previous government.

Rouhani also called on all those who want to study in private universities in the future to first make sure they have a university license.

Pajhwok tried to contact Islamic University officials for their comment about the protest, but they did not respond.
