Afghani currency value jumps 4pc against USD

KABUL (Pajhwok): The price of fuel has increased by eight percent while that of food has dipped by three percent and the afghani currency jumps four percent against the USD during the outgoing week, market sources said Saturday.

A worker of the Ahmadyar Group Fuel Station in Kabul told Pajhwok Afghan News that the price of a liter of petrol increased from 82 afghanis to 84 afghanis and the same quantity of diesel from 79afs to 88afs.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kalola Pushta area of Kabul, said the price of one kilogram of the commodity was increased from 82afs to 84afs.

The source said that the fuel prices increased following Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Zamarai Safi, head of Kabul Food Traders Union, said that the price of a 16 liters of Malaysina ghee has increased from 2,700afs to 2,800afs.

However, he said that a bag of 49 kilograms of Indian sugar dipped from 3,000afs to 2,800afs, a bag of 49kg of Kazakhstani flour from 2,150afs to 2,100afs and 24.5kg of Pakistani rice from 2,500afs to 2,450afs.

Safi said that the price of a kilogram of African black tea was 400afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea 350afs, the same as last week’s.

Hamid Sufizada, a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh area of Kabul said that the price of a bag of 49kg of Kazakhstani flour was 2,100afs, 24kg of rice 2,500afs, 49kg of Indian sugar 2,900afs , a tin of 16 liters of Malaysian ghee 2,800afs, a kilogram of Indonesian green tea 400afs and the same quantity of African black tea 450afs, higher than wholesale rates.

Gold prices decrease.

Mohammad Javid, a jeweler in Lycee Mariam area of Kabul said that the price of one gram of Arabian gold from 4,550afs but the same quantity of Russian variety dipped from 3,600afs to 3,500afs.

Haji Hussain, owner of Sadaqat Money Exchange Service in Sara-i-Shahzada Market in Kabul, said that one US dollar accounted for 85.2afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees 500afs compared to last week’s rates of 89afs and 500afs respectively.
