KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): A private university in southern Kandahar province has established small libraries in hospitals, banks, markets and waiting areas in order to promote the culture of reading.
Sediqullah Afghan, head of the library at the Mirwais Neka university, told Pajhwok Afghan News the initiative was aimed at promoting the culture of book reading.
He said they had so far established 10 such libraries and the drive was underway.
He said they planned to set up small libraries in 230 parks, hotels, hospitals, banks, supermarkets and other public places so that the people could study.
Abdul Qadir Takeen, head of the public relations of the university, told Pajhwok: “We have placed different types of books in these libraries as both men and women need to read books.”
Javed Ahmad, a resident of the 1st police district of Kandahar city, told Pajhwok people wait in hospitals and different other institution so reading books would be a good opportunity.
Mohammad Qahir, a nurse at a private hospital, said relatives of patients in hospital mostly spent their times waiting and during the period, it would be good that they could read book and increase their information.
