Afghan men, women should decide form of government: Niklasson

KABUL (Pajhwok): European Special Envoy for Afghanistan Tomas Niklasson has said only the people of Afghanistan shall decide regarding their political system.

The EU envoy said this in response to acting Foreign Minister Ameer Khan Muttaqi’s comment during Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

Muttaqi said political systems from abroad should not be imposed on the people of Afghanistan as it did not prove successful in the past.

On his Twitter handle Niklasson wrote: “I would agree but would suggest something even more radical: No government, or form of government, should be imposed on Afghans. Let the people – men and women – decide.”
