KABUL (Pajhwok): As many as 117 cases of violence against journalists and media workers have been registered across Afghanistan since March 2021.
A joint report from two media groups, released on Wednesday, said that four journalists were killed during the period.
In the past year, the Afghanistan Journalists Centre and Afghan Independent Journalists Association said, around 6,000 media workers lost their jobs.
In the preceding year, 11 deaths and 103 other cases of violence against media workers had been reported in the country.
During the period, 5,928 media workers lost their jobs, said Farhad Behroz, deputy head of the Afghan Independent Journalists Association.
He added: “We share with the international community what creates hurdles to free speech. The reporting period was not a good year for journalists.”
