KABUL (Pajhwok): Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah MahmodQureshi and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yiin met in Islamabad and emphasized on cooperation with Afghanistan.
A statement from Pakistani foreign ministry received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that the two sides discussed about economic, security and Covid-19 response cooperation as well as current situation in Ukraine and some international issues.
Pakistani foreign minister Qureshi also stressed the importance of China in Pakistan’s foreign policy, saying that the two countries had always supported each other in their core interests in all critical situations.
Qureshi told his Chinese counterpart that the two countries should continue to work to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan and prevent humanitarian crisis in the country.
China’s foreign minister is expected to attend the 48th foreign ministers meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for the first time.
The meeting would be held in Pakistan today, Tuesday, and tomorrow, Wednesday, and the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan would be one of its main topics.
Pakistan hosts the second meeting of OIC as the organization recently held a special meeting on Afghanistan in Islamabad, in which member countries pledged financial assistance to the country.
OIC opened its office in Kabul on March 5 and Mohammad Sayeed al-Ayyash was appointed as head of the office for Afghanistan.
