KABUL (Pajhwok): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Kabul on his maiden trip on Thursday, an official said.

Zia Ahmad Takal, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the arrival of Yi and said details would be shared later on.

Landing in Kabul on an unannounced visit after attending an OIC meeting in Islamabad, the top Chinese diplomat will meet senior Afghan officials.

Beijing is scheduled to host a meeting of Afghanistan’s neighbours to explore ways of helping the war-torn country overcome the current humanitarian crisis or other challenges.

Ahmad Yasir, a senior government official in Kabul, tweeted: “Chinese Foreign Minister arrives in Kabul for talks with Islamic Emirate leaders.”

Yi arrived in Kabul from Islamabad where he attended a two-day meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

An official, who did not want to be named, the visiting Chinese diplomat met Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and other officials after his arrival.
