China ready to expand trade ties with Afghanistan: FM

KABUL (Pajhwok): Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi has said his country is ready to expand trade relations with Afghanistan during talks with Afghan officials.

Yi, who arrived in Kabul yesterday, met separately with Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and Acting Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Mottaqi.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade tweeted today that Minister of Industry and Trade Nooruddin Azizi had a meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister and discussed with him a range of issues.

He demanded reactivation of China’s commercial attaché in Afghanistan, marketing for a number of commodities, and the establishment of a specific framework for trade, transport, logistics and finance.

Other issues discussed during the meeting included the opening of a Chinese laboratory to standardize exports, the issuance of visas to Afghan traders, the signing of investment development agreements, the creation of economic zones, and the benefits of water, wind and solar.

The talks also focused on investments in the energy sector and the provision of training for Afghan engineers in the industrial sector.

The Chinese Foreign Minister said that his country was ready o expand trade relations with Afghanistan and to cooperate in the fields of mining, roads and hospitals.
