MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Thousands of families received food assistance in the Alingar district of eastern Laghman province, local officials say.
Alingar district chief Qari Zahid told Pajhwok Afghan News on Thursday that the aid was provided by the World Food Program (WFP).
The aid was distributed to 8771 families. Each family received 75kg of flour, 6.73kg of ghee, 9.38kg of pulses, 1.5kg of halwa sajji and a packet of salt.
Mohammad Aman, a resident of Sangara village in the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was happy to receive the aid.
But he called on the government, the World Food Program and other charities to continue providing such assistance.
According to him, the economic situation of the people is very bad and they need more help.
