Karzai hopes Beijing huddle to be fruitful for Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Former President Hamid Karzai has said that China is Afghanistan’s good neighbor and friend and expressed hope that the outcome of an upcoming conference on Afghanistan in Beijing would be fruitful.

A meeting of foreign ministers focusing on Afghanistan is scheduled to be hosted in Beijing in late March.

A statement from the office of former president received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that Karzai met with Chinese Ambassador Wang Yuon on Monday.

“Hamid Karzai called China a good neighbor and friend of Afghanistan and thanked for its cooperation with Afghanistan in various fields,” the statement said.

Karzai hoped that the result of the Beijing conference would be productive for the Afghan people and Afghan students would be given scholarships in cooperation with China and other neighboring countries.

The Chinese ambassador provided information on the recent visit of the Chinese foreign minister to Afghanistan and presented his gift to the former president.
