MEHTHARLAM (Pajhwok): Hundreds of acres of land cultivated with wheat in the Alingar district of eastern Laghman province is facing the risk of deterioration due to lack of water.
Qari Zahidullah Fateh, administrative chief for Alingar district, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “There is drought in Sangura area of the district and hundreds of acres of wheat field is on the verge of deterioration.”
He said the government must pay serious attention to the problems of these people and build water dams.
Amir Mohammad, 75, a resident of Sangura area, said there was shortage of water in their area but if the government established dams the problem would be addressed.
Nasrullah, a resident of market village of the area, said: “There is always water shortage in our area and around 550 acres of cultivated crops is being deteriorated.”
He called on the government to extend a canal from Alingar river to Sanguar area and resolve the problem.
Maulvi Mohammad Wali Mohsin, director of agriculture department, told Pajhwok said they had planned development programmes in the province and Sangura area would be a priority.
He said they would drill deep water wells and also establish water dams.
