JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 1,500 poultry farms have been closed, rendering 3,000 people jobless over the past six months in eastern Nangarhar province, businesspeople say.
Last year’s political change in the country, easy imports of low-quality poultry meat from Pakistan, high feed rates and lack of oversight by the Ministry of Agriculture are among reasons for the closure of the farms.
The Poultry Farms Union in the province said more than 3,000 farms existed in Nangarhar, but half of them were currently shut.
