LASHKARGAH/KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Government Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has rejected reports regarding US airstrike in southern Helmand province and said Explosive Remnant of War (ERW) detonated in a desert.

Earlier Modren Policy Website claimed Taliban’s weapons depot at Boston Billion Pound Base or Shurab Airport in Helmand province was destroyed in an airstrike.

A heavy explosion at a weapons depot at the Shurab military base took place on Wednesday last week, a source close to the Taliban said the blast was not caused by fire.

On his Twitter handle Mujahid said: “In Helmand Mujahideen rounded up ERW and detonated them in an area near Shurab.”

No other incident or airstrike had happened, adding that media reports on US airstrike were not true.

Helmand Information and Cultural Affairs Department also spurned US airstrike reports saying: “After victory not airstrike happened in Helmand, there is peace and stability.”
