PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan’s National Assembly (NA) session, which is to vote on a no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, was adjourned till 12:30pm on Saturday.

Speaker Asad Qaiser is chairing the session, which got under way with recitation from the Holy Quran.

Voting on the no-trust motion against the premier is a key item on the agenda. Member of the combined opposition are confident of voting out the prime minister.

Opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif called Thursday a historic day in Pakistan’s history. Two days back, the Supreme Court overturned the deputy speaker’s ruling on stopping coting on the motion.

“Today, parliament is going to vote out a selected prime minister in a constitutional manner,” he commented.

To this, the speaker said the lower house should debate the “foreign conspiracy” hatched against the PTI government”.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi acknowledged the opposition reserved the right to submit a no-confidence motion.

At the same time, he added, the government was duty-bound to defend itself and defeat the motion.

As the speaker adjourned the session till 12:30pm, the opposition protested the decision as unjust and insisted on voting.
