KABUL (Pajhwok): The Iranian embassy in capital Kabul has termed images and videos of Iranian border guards mistreating Afghans as an attempt to destroy relations between the two countries.
However, Pajhwok Afghan News report shows that a number of Afghans living in Iran have complained about the mistreatment and torture of Afghans by Iranians, saying that Afghans recently could not go out of their homes.
Recently some pictures and video clips circulating on social media show the Iranian people and military insulting and torturing some Afghan refugees.
The mistreatment of Afghan refugees by Iranian police and people began after a report about the murder of two Iranian students was published five days ago.
However, Iranian embassy in Kabul in a statement said that the reports and information that show Iranian border guards mistreating Afghan citizens were baseless and unreliable.
It is clear that such video clips and images cannot be used as a basis for a fair judgment regarding the type of treatment of Afghan citizens in Iran, the source said.
“On the other side, there are also videos clips being circulated in social media that promote Afghan-phobia in Iranian society, and show that Afghans committing crimes against the Iranian people,” the mission said.
The Iranian embassy criticized some media outlets, saying that promoting such clips seeks to destroy relations between the two countries.
The source said that video clips published on social media about the persecution of Afghans in Iran, in a purposeful and planned manner, were aimed at destroying deep and historical relations between the two nations and seek to instill Iran-phobia in society.
General policy of Iran towards Afghanistan and its people is based on the principle of good neighborliness and mutual respect, and the publication of such baseless reports shows a conspiracy to damage the relations of the two countries.
Iran has been hosting Afghan migrants for over four decades and currently hosts five million of them, who generally enjoy the facilities available in Iran as Iranian citizens, the source added.
The embassy said that recent political changes in Afghanistan led to a new wave of Afghans migrating to Iran, but Iran has not created any barriers to the entry of Afghan citizens and still welcomes new immigrants despite its economic problems caused by sanctions.
The statement said that Iranian embassy in Kabul and the consulates in Herat, Kandahar, Jalalabad and Mazar-i-Sharif, issued visas to Afghans every day except holidays.
Afghan people who want to travel to Iran can apply for a visa and enter Iran legally by visiting any of these agencies, the source said.
The statement said that illegal entry into Iran meant a violation of the territorial sovereignty of that country and the Iranian border forces are obliged to prevent the illegal entry of all foreign nationals into that country.
