KABUL (Pajhwok): Religious scholars have once again called for the lifting all restrictions on girls’ education and the reopening of secondary schools for female students. .
The Assembly of Religious Scholars in Afghanistan,calling girls’education a fundamental right, asked the Taliban government to reopen girls’ schools at the earliest possible.
A statement from the assembly said Under Islamic rules, a woman — just like a man — reserved the right to study Sharia and modern sciences.
Cited by TOLOnews, the statement said: “That is why we call on the Islamic Emirate to open the doors of education to girls and remove all obstacles in this regard.”
University teacher Faiz Mohammad Zaland was quoted as saying: “According to Islam, there are no obstacles blocking the education of girls. Learning is the presumed right of every person, and girls should be given the right to education,”
In the meantime, in Berlin a number of Afghans living in Germany as well as German citizens protested against the closing of girls’ schools above the sixth grade and demanded the reopening of schools.
