Iran summons Afghan ambassador in Tehran

KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran has summoned the Afghan ambassador in Tehran after protests in Kabul and Herat over alleged ill-treatment of refugees.

On Tuesday, media reports said, the Iranian embassy in Kabul and consulate in Herat were briefly shut protestors in Herat hurled stones at the consulate building.

IRNA said Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian, in a phone call, lodged a protest with Afghan Ambassador Abdul Qayoum Sulymani.

The Afghan ambassador was told that ensuring the security of diplomatic missions was the responsibility of the host country.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh alleged video clips had been released to create fear in Iran and Afghanistan.

A day earlier, Khatibzadeh urged the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to ensure enhanced security for Iran’s diplomatic missions in the country.
