Taliban vow to protect Iran’s diplomatic missions

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Taliban government has pledged full security of Iranian diplomatic missions in Afghanistan.

Rasoul Mousavi, assistant to the Iranian foreign minister, said the security assurances came after Monday’s protests outside the Iranian consulate in Herat.

Although no significant incident occurred outside the consulate, any security breach was a key issue regardless of its scale, he commented.

Iran Front Page, a news website quoted Mousavi as saying the Foreign Ministry was in constant contact with the ambassador to Afghanistan.

Kabul had acknowledged Iran’s concerns over the security of its diplomats and promised to take necessary measures in this regard, he added.
