KABUL (Pajhwok): Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has voiced his deep regrets over recent attacks on the Iranian embassy in Kabul and its consulate in Herat.
In a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian on Monday night, he promised Afghanistan would protect Iran’s diplomatic missions.
IRNA quoted Amirabdollahian as saying that Iran had been hosting and providing services to millions Afghans over the past four decades.
He deplored the upsetting events that happened as a result of propaganda spread on social media by the “enemies of the two countries”.
Iran had always taken a positive and constructive approach towards Afghanistan, sending humanitarian aid to the Afghans, he commented.
His country expected Afghanistan’s new rulers to ensure the security of its diplomatic missions, the top Iranian diplomat added.
For his part, Muttaqi hailed Iran’s assistance and assured all possible efforts to expand relations with the neighbouring nation.
