KABUL (Pajhwok): Humanitarian assistance is reaching more people with each passing month, says the UN’s ReliefWeb.
One in five families (21 percent) acknowledged receiving humanitarian food assistance in March, a notable increase from the previous months.
In some parts of western Afghanistan, the website reported, this aid reached two in five households (43 percent).
As a result of the assistance, severe food insecurity has been reduced in several regions, including Herat, Kabul, northeast and southeast.
However, it acknowledged, the number of people facing insufficient food consumption remained alarmingly high.
In March, only 7 percent of people reported having enough to eat, a slight improvement of 2 percentage points on the previous months.
“Households of person/s with disabilities continue to be disproportionately impacted, and are turning to drastic measures to put food on the table (74 percent) far more than other households.”
According to the ReliefWeb, incomes continue to fall, though at a slightly slower pace. In March, 63 percent of income-earning households reported a significant decrease in income.
