ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Security officials in eastern Kunar province on Wednesday claimed seizing an advanced radar system which was being smuggled to Pakistan.
Mulavi Mohammad HuzaifaHaqqani, Kunar intelligence chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that security forces seized the radar system from smugglers during a special operation in Dangam district of the province.
He said that the system was used for early warning of rocket strikes.
The system was previously used by US forces and the smugglers wanted to smuggle it to Pakistan and sell it for two million afghanis, he said, adding that several people had been arrested in connection with the case and an investigation was underway.
Haqqani said that security forces also seized a mountain mortar, a rocket-propelled grenade, three pistols, a machinegun and a number of other military items during the operation.
He called on the people to voluntarily hand over military equipment to the government.
