Journalists’ rights bodies urged to ensure transparency

KABUL (Pajhwok): Some journalists in capital Kabul have demanded the creation of an independent journalists body and stressed journalists name should not be misused.

Five journalists, including two women on Friday held a press conference in capital Kabul.

Mobin Ahmad Mowahid, one of the participant claimed after regime change some countries tried to pull out journalist from Afghanistan and labeled them as one of the most affected portion of society.

They said the process was marred by corruption and other people instead of journalists were taken out of the country against money.

“We have formed a body to seek justice in this regard and stop the misuse of journalists name,” he said.

“We have noted some cases in which journalist had been cheated like in one such case Kam Air evacuated 150 people by the name of journalists,” said Mawahid.

But Hafeezullah Barakzai, the Afghanistan Journalists Council head, rejected the claim that he included some individuals into that list under the name of journalist.

He said seven months earlier everyone tried to leave the country and they also create a list.

Mawahid also demanded associations and union advocating the rights of journalists to priority to transparency and fairness and earn their legitimacy from journalists.
