Moscow optimistic of trade cooperation with Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok):  Russia is optimistic of developing trade and economic cooperation with Afghanistan, says a media report

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, commenting on the situation around Afghanistan, painted Friday a rosy picture of bilateral cooperation.

“We see promising areas for developing cooperation and direct contacts between business circles,” TASS news agency quoted him as saying.

He referred to potential bilateral links in the agriculture, energy, and transport sectors, taking into account Afghanistan’s high transit potential.

Over 140 enterprises built by the Soviet Union in the war-torn country remained the mainstay of the Afghan economy, the minister argued.

Lavrov added: “This creates additional opportunities for increasing our cooperation in the trade and economic sphere.”

Bilateral cooperation was discussed on March 24 when a Russian delegation, led by Special Representative Zamir Kabulov, visited Kabul

“In parallel, on the same day, another batch of Russian humanitarian aid was delivered: About 20 tonnes of medicines. Of course, we will continue such assistance to Afghanistan,” he promised.
