KABUL (Pajhwok): Doctors say a healthy diet is important in preventing Covid-19 infection because it strengthens the body’s immune system.
Due to the considerable prevalence of coronavirus, experts have recommended some nutrition to combat the virus, emphasizing what should be eaten and what should not be eaten.
The experts call it important that all vitamins needed to boost the body’s immune system are provided through food sources.
Dr. Hashmat Faizi, head of the emergency department at the Afghan-Japan Hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a healthy diet was important to prevent Covid-19 disease, as it boosted the body’s immune system.
He added: “Especially one should eat foods that contain vitamins C, A, E and D which play a major role in boosting the immunity.”
“People should eat fruits and vegetables regularly so that they do not get infected.”
He said a person suffering from Covid-19 should be given regular meals, in addition to a strong vegetable diet, various fruits and fruit juices should also be given to the patient.
He pointed out that having a regular diet schedule plays a fundamental role in the recovery of corona patients.
Meanwhile, Dr. Baath Ahadpur, an internal medicine specialist at a hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News that healthy food is one of the most important parts of the body.
“Healthy nutrition has a direct effect on protection from coronavirus,” he added. “Because a healthy diet strengthens the body’s immune system and this immune system is a collection of specialized cells and components that protect the body against viruses, bacteria and other infections.”
Foods that contain vitamins and minerals boost the body’s immunity, he says.
The University of Western Azerbaijan (West Azerbaijan University of Medical Sciences and Health Services) has launched a topic entitled “Healthy Nutrition in the Prevention and Treatment of Corona Virus”.
“The role of nutrition in strengthening the body’s immune system. Remember that, whether in a normal state or in an emergency situation, it is important to maintain balance and diversity in the consumption of all foods.” Balance is the use of essential nutrients to keep the body healthy.
This means that one should consume the daily diet such as bread, vegetables, fruits, milk and its other products, meat, eggs, cereals and nuts.
According to the source, adequate intake of nuts can strengthen the immune system and strengthen the body against various diseases especially viruses.
Mohammad Darwish, a resident of Kabul, said his grandfather contracted Covid-19 disease last year and their entire family was worried about his age and frail body.
But the grandfather used a regular diet — fruits and vegetables — several times a day, and with his old age, he defeated the virus, he said.
In addition to a healthy diet, doctors recommend that people follow health recommendations, such as social distance, using a mask, and washing their hands several times with soap.
