Gunmen claim life of Baghlan crime branch chief

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pahwok): The crime branch police chief for northern Baghlan province has been killed under mysterious circumstances, police said on Friday.

Police spokesman Mohammad Idris Sherzad told Pajhwok Afghan News that Qari Nooruddin Noori was killed by unknown gunmen in the Tala Barfak district center last night.

He added Noori received a call and was asked to come out of home. As he left the house, rumors of his death spread ten minutes later.

“Nooruddin’s father reported to us that his son had received a phone call. When he went outside, he received the news ten minutes later that his son had been killed,” he said.

He said police had launched an investigation to nab the killers.

However, a local resident, who did not want to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Nooruddin was killed in a roadside bomb blast last night and his funeral was held today.

“Nooruddin was on his way home when a bomb struck him and he was killed,” he said.

Nooruddin Noori took over as Baghlan police chief’s crime director two months ago.

About two months ago, wo security forces were killed in an ambush in the same area.
