US special envoy slams Taliban’s decree on hijab

KABUL (Pajhwok): The US special representative for Afghanistan has expressed concern over the Taliban’s decree requiring women to wear burqas.

The Afghan government’s order could undermine its relationship with the international community, Thomas West tweeted on Monday.

The Taliban’s policies toward women were an affront to human rights, the US diplomat warned.

Along with Afghans, the special envoy wrote, he expressed deep concern at the Taliban’s recent measures impeding the rights of women and girls.
