2nd consignment of relief items sent to Balkh: Pakistan

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan on Tuesday dispatched the second consignment of relief items for flood victims Afghanistan.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) sent the aid in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directions.

A PAF C-130 aircraft carrying the relief items flew to Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, said a government statement.

The second consignment includes tents, flour, rice and sugar. The first tranche had been received by Afghanistan on May 7.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Ambassador Mansour Ahmad Khan said Prime Minister Sharif had approved the aid to support flood-hit families hit in Afghanistan.

Sharif has urged the global fraternity not to forget the Afghan people, calling for continued assistance the war-torn country.

At least 22 people were killed and more than 40 others wounded by flash floods and heavy rains in 10 different provinces of Afghanistan.
