Ghor residents want work on solar energy project resumed

FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): The residents of western Ghor province have asked the government to resume work on a solar energy project which was launched in the previous government but remains incomplete.

Work on the solar energy project was kicked off 10 years ago, but it could not be completed on time due to the negligence of previous government.

Ghulam Haidar, a resident of Ferozkoh City, said work on the solar energy project was launched 10 years ago but it could not be completed so far.

“We wanted the previous government to complete the solar energy project so that people would be able to benefit from clean and cheap energy. Unfortunately, the project was delayed over the past 10 years and nobody took notice of the delayed work on this key project,” he said.

Mohammad Nader, another resident of Ferozkoh City, lamented the previous government’s negligence regarding the project and said local residents often voiced their concern over the delay in completion of the project and demanded its swift completion.

“We raised our voices several times but we were given false promises. The supply of 5MW electricity was started which was stopped after some time,” he said.

Abdul Ghafar, another Ghor resident, said they had electricity during night time only. “We use generator electricity during night which is very expensive,” he said.

Ghor Governor Spokesperson Mawlavi Abdul Wahid Hammas said: “Islamic Emirate government is striving to construct a hydropower dam in the province. During a meeting between the governor and the energy minister, it was agreed that a hydropower dam will be constructed in Ghor.”

He did not provide more detail in this regard.
