KABUL (Pajhwok): The UN envoy to Afghanistan has called for a joint conference of UN, ministries concerned and aid agencies to address challenges and facilitate humanitarian aid to the war-torn country.
EnamullahSamangani, deputy spokesman of the Afghan caretaker government, in a tweet today said that Mualvi Abdul Salam Hanafi, deputy prime minister, met today with Deborah Lyons, UN Special Representative for Afghanistan in the Presidential Palace today.
During the meeting, both sides discussed greater coordination and transparency regarding humanitarian aid delivery in Afghanistan, he said.
He added that the UN envoy provided information on the activities of UN agencies in Afghanistan and called for a joint conference of UN agencies and other donor agencies to address the challenges, further coordinate and facilitate humanitarian assistance to the country.
"Deputy prime minister welcomed the idea for the conference, which would lead to a transparent delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, and called it important for greater understanding and coordination between the Islamic Emirate and donor agencies," he added.
Referring to the recent devastating floods in different parts of Afghanistan, Hanafi called for more aid to the affected people and said that Afghan farmers were in need of help since the new government banned cultivation of narcotics in the country.
Samangani added that the UN special envoy stressed on UN’s continued efforts to build good coordination and understanding for humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
