GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Hundreds of tonnes of expired and poor-quality food and non-food items have been seized and eight individuals arrested in southern Ghazni province.
The products were seized from 11 containers and five warehouses.
Maulvi Hamidullah Sabawoon, head of the serious crime branch, told Pajhwok Afghan News the food items included beverages, jams, biscuits and dates.
He added the non-food items included shampoos and other products. The expired items were recovered jointly by the police headquarters and municipality.
“Three biscuit and beverage factories have been held accountable for using expired materials in their products,” he informed.
Eight individuals have also been detained and would be released on bail.
Mohammad Qasim, a resident of Ghazni City, claimed many shopkeepers not only sold expired items but also fleeced consumers.
