Afghanistan, Iran security officials agree to improve coordination

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan and Iranian officials have agreed to increase coordination between the security forces of the two countries, according to a statement on Friday.

“Both sides agreed to prevent future escalation of tension at border and stressed over the resolution contradictory issues,” a statement from the Ministry of Defence said.

Talks in this regard were held in Iran. Afghan side was led by Islamic Emirate Army Chief Cheif of Staff Shabir Ahmand Usmani and Iranian side was led by Iranian Army Army Chief Chief of Staff Qasim Rezaee.

Both sides also agreed to mutually appoint focal person in their border, improve coordination between border security forces and resolve future issue that could lead to tension through talks.

Recently, Afghan and Iranian security forces escalated tension on border. Iranian official blamed that Afghan forces tried to construct a road at the border which was not allowed by Iranian forces
