Nangarhar Canal Dept. expects 10m afs revenue this year

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Officials of the Canal Department of eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday said they would be able to collect 10 million afghanis in revenue from livestock farms.

Officials say that the cow’s dairy farms of the Canal Department produce 16,500 liters of milk monthly which can generate up to 10 million afghanis in revenue.

Nangarhar Canal Department spokesman, SayedHumayunGharibmal, told Pajhwok Afghan News there were 265 cows in the livestock farm, 50 of which produced milk.

He said that 550 liters of milk was collected from cows every day or 16,500 liters of milk in a month.

The annual income from the milk is estimated at 10 million afghanis and efforts are being made to increase the number of cows in the coming years, he said.

He added that the farm was spread over 8.5 acres of land close to Farm Hada area of the province.

“We plan to modernize and organize the existing livestock farms and strengthen the dairy sector,” he said.

Eng. ShukarullahNoorzai, in charge of livestock farms of Nangarhar Canal Department, said that the farm has animal clinics, veterinarians, automatic lotion machines, synthetic food and other needed facilities.

Some residents of Nangarhar are happy with the quality and price of milk from livestock farms, but demand that the milk should be distributed to all shops in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital.

Naveed, a resident of Angor Bagh area of ​​Jalalabad city, told Pajhwok Afghan News that in the past, some specific tankers would sell milk of livestock farms to shops in the city, but the process had stopped.

Canal Department officials say they are trying to start the process again after milk production increased.
