GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A number of university students in southeastern Paktia province called the hijab a national and religious value of Afghan women and supported the government's decision in this regard.
Some time ago, the government announced a new dress code for women, asking the gender to hide their faces when in public.
A number of female students of Paktia University held a meeting on the subject today.
Zahra Mohammadi, a participant in the meeting, said: "We welcome the government's decision on the hijab and urge all women to endorse it."
She said although Afghan women had already adopted the hijab, with a few exceptions, the government's design was comprehensive and beneficial to all women.
According to Mohammadi, Afghans live in an Islamic society, so women need to wear the hijab.
"We welcome the recent decision by the government on the hijab and consider it beneficial for women," said Shaheen, another participant in the meeting.
She said that the institutions and personalities who oppose the new hijab decision, it is their personal opinion, not the will of all women.
According to Shaheen, the decision to wear the hijab is in the interest of all Afghan women and all should apply it to themselves.
However, a number of women in Kabul recently protested against the government’s decision saying burqa was not their hijab.
