MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Local officials in northwestern Faryab province have announced the launch of a ‘Work for Food’ program that would be implemented in three phases in 15 days in Qurghan district of the province.
MulaviTajuddinOmari, the district chief of Qurghan, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the program was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL).
He said that around 1,500 people would work in cleaning streams, canals, basins and gravel roads in three phases in 15 days.
Omari also added that each person would receive 50 kilograms of wheat during five working days.
Karim and Chahari, two workers of the "Work for Food" program, described the work opportunity as useful for the unemployed and the poor people and said that the program helped them a lot as they were suffering from joblessness.
They called on the government to launch more such programs in the future so it would create work for more people.
