MAHMOOD RAQI (Pajhwok): Farmers complain of water shortages and drought in some districts of central Kapisa province, saying their crops are on the brink of parching.

Milad, a resident of Nijrab district, told Pajhwok Afghan News they had been facing water shortages this year more than ever before.

“Unfortunately, due to drought and water shortages, our wheat crop has dried up,” he lamented, contributing to food insecurity in the country.

Milad urged the government to address their problems as soon as possible and address the issue of hunger.

Massoud, an inhabitant of Mahmood Raqi, said growers were unable to purchase modified seeds on the one hand and their wheat fields had been destroyed due to water shortages on the other.

He asked the government and donor agencies to reach out to the people and save them from hunger.

Meanwhile, Director of Agriculture Roohullah Roohani confirmed to Pajhwok that drought had affected the entire province.

He added Tagab district faced 30 percent of water shortage, Nijrab 10 percent and Alasai 10 percent. “Crops have been destroyed in many villages.”

Roohani said they were working to resolve the problems of farmers and assist them with the cooperation of donor organisations.
